Car Respray Dublin: How a Respray Is Done
Modern automotive paint is built up in layers over the metal, typically primer, colour and a protective clear coat. A good finish depends on the work done before any colour goes on. In our spray booth, the process looks like this:
- Repair. Any dents, creases or damage are repaired first, so the panel is the right shape.
- Preparation. The surface is cleaned and prepared so the new paint can bond properly.
- Masking. Glass, trim and areas not being painted are masked off.
- Primer. Primer goes on and is prepared before colour.
- Colour. The colour is matched to the car and applied in the spray booth.
- Finish check. The paintwork is checked under the booth lights for an even finish.

Partial or Full Respray?
Most paintwork after a collision is a partial respray: the repaired panels are painted and blended so the colour matches the panels next to them. A full respray covers the whole vehicle. We will tell you which approach suits your car and the damage, and quote for that.
Small scratches and dents on a single panel may only need a local repair. See our dent and body panel repairs page for more.
What Affects the Cost of a Respray
Every car painting job is quoted individually, because the work involved varies a lot from one car to the next. The main things that affect a respray quote are:
- How much of the car is being painted: one panel, several panels or the whole vehicle
- The condition of the panels: dents, creases or damage need repairing before any paint goes on
- The colour and finish: some colours and finishes take more work to match and blend
- Trim and parts: how much needs to be removed or masked to paint the car properly
Clear photos of the whole car and close-ups of the areas you want painted help us give you an accurate quote. Send them through the enquiry form.
